The making of a porcelain plate

by sarah-linda

I finally took the time to create a video, taking you behind the scenes in Limoges to witness the magic of porcelain.

After I deliver a first model to the manufacturer, every step of the process is done by the skilful hands of the craftsmen and engineers. After the creation of the first mould on the model, the first sample comes out, which is reviewed by us all to see if anything has to change.

Once the sample is what it should be, the plaster production moulds are made. Every single piece is then casted, taken out of the mould and finished by hand.

After the first firing the pieces can be glazed, branded and fired again. It’s only then that the finishing touches, such as golden rims and iridescent glazes, can be applied before the piece is fired one last time.

It’s a process of weeks, sometimes months when new shapes are created.

A lot of care and attention goes into it, and I’m grateful to be working with such a beautiful manufacturer who puts quality above quantity.
